Leadership Insight

As the world keeps turning, it seems to a lot of us that the noise and static keeps getting louder and louder, while signal, clarity, and truth loses market share on social media, mainstream news, and other controlled outlets. The effect has been a deeper yearning for truth, especially in the younger generations. It’s imperative for leaders to demonstrate genuinely virtuous behavior, pointed towards ethically profiting - we are all in business, after all.

Practical insights on leadership 101, curated from time-tested leaders:

  • Speak the Truth

It’s crucial to be honest with everyone we come into contact with. Not only does it build trust and respect, but it preserves our own subconscious. Even the smallest of lies or a misdirection undermines personal growth, and damages self-perception. This distortion of reality, big or small, degrades signal and increases noise.

  • Embrace Discomfort

Don’t shy from difficult conversations or decisions. Embracing this as a mindset is a key to growth. Ask David Goggins, he’s happy to tell you.

  • Master Negotiation
Use empathy, applied tactically, to understand the other side’s perspective, demonstrate that understanding, and collaborate on a solution from the same side of the table instead of taking sides and battling it out. Scoot your chair to their side of the table, literally.

  • Set Clear Expectations
Be precise in your speech. When everyone knows what’s expected of them, misunderstandings and conflicts decrease. This one can bite you - speak clearly!

Blueprint for Success

With AI, new technologies such as EVTOLs, Pandemics, and changing financial climates - it’s easy to get caught up in trends, fads, and “the in-thing” or even the “that’s the way we’ve always done it” mindset. Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger have inspired an entire wave of successful individuals and corporations by applying timeless principles. The businesses that will win long-term are those with long-term values such as acting with integrity, patience, and creating real value. It’s a simple dynamic, truly: add massive value.

Knowledge Key

The best books are those that will stand the test of time. It’s better to read one book a hundred times than to read a hundred books one time. There are a ton of choices for this slot, however, “Can’t Hurt Me” by David Goggins is the Knowledge Key for this edition.

The value in the book is just witnessing the unfiltered lens of Goggins - you’ll understand later if you aren’t familiar now. Limitations are to be exceeded, and the mind is the ultimate enemy to be conquered. It’s not a read, it’s an experience, and it will transform anyone who reads it with an open mind and a bias for action and growth.

Spotlight

Ace might have a cliche name, but he’s ready to carry the boats, and the logs. He’s “too old for this….” and “was alive before you were born”.

“A majority of life's errors are caused by forgetting what one is really trying to do. The best thing a human can do is to help another human being know more. Knowing what you don't know is more useful than being brilliant. The habit of committing far more time to learning and thinking than to doing is no accident.”

-Charlie Munger (Warren Buffett's Long-Time Business Partner)
