The Inner Game of Consistency: Mastering Your Mental State
Dive into strategies for mental resilience that keep you moving forward, even when motivation wanes.
Welcome to the thirty-fourth edition of Airplane Mode! Today, we're exploring the power of perseverance & consistency – the unyielding spirit that forms the heart of this newsletter. In a world filled with distractions, let this be your beacon. Consider these words a gentle nudge, a reminder when everything feels overwhelming. Ready to find your focus? Let's dive in!
Finding Your Pace: The Wisdom of Consistent Resilience
Ever feel like you're in over your head? Projects piling up, obstacles appearing at every turn, and that nagging doubt that whispers "maybe this is too much." It's a feeling most of us know well. And in those moments, staying consistent - in anything - can feel downright impossible.
But here's the thing: consistency isn't about perfection. It's about showing up, even when the road ahead looks blurry. It's about taking one step, then another, fueled by the belief that small, steady actions will eventually lead you where you want to go.
So, how do we remain consistent when we're struggling?
Embrace the "good enough" mindset. Even the most successful people understand that perfection is the enemy of progress. Like Sheryl Sandberg (COO of Meta) famously said, "Done is better than perfect." Aim to get things done, even if they aren't flawless.
Focus on the next right step. Overwhelm comes from seeing the whole mountain at once. Break big goals into small, manageable tasks, and tackle the next one. It's the approach Michael Phelps, one of the most decorated Olympians, used – focusing on perfecting each individual stroke, not the entire race.
Befriend your inner critic (seriously). Recognize that negative self-talk is normal. Instead of letting it derail you, thank it for the input and gently re-focus on what you can control.
Quote to Ponder: "It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop." – Confucius
Remember, consistency isn't about speed; it's about resilience. It's about showing up for yourself, day after day, even when the going gets tough. Because those small actions? They add up to big shifts over time.
The Power of Compounding: Getting 1% Better Every Day
Imagine getting just 1% better at something each day. It might not seem like much at first. But over time, those tiny improvements compound. At the end of a year, you won't be just 365% better – you'll be a staggering 37 times better!
This is the magic of consistency. Think about it in business:
You improve your writing skills by 1% each day.
You get 1% better at networking each week.
You increase your sales knowledge by 1% every month.
These small improvements, consistently applied, can lead to massive leaps in your career and business growth.

Ace
Ace came back home, and as predicted he’s a little banged up. We don’t know where he goes, or what he does - we just picture him army crawling through the jungle with a Rambo knife in his mouth. Chances are he’s in a turbine and a business suit and is wearing an undercover shirt-button camera and spooking for the agency some place in the cradle of civilization, but we love him all the same. He’s back to work, uniform on, and he’s ready to make it happen.
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
Thank you for reading Airplane Mode, I hope it’s been valuable for your journey! The only thing I ask for this complimentary edition is just a comment below, if you’re not totally opposed.
